Southern Oregon down the Sierra Nevada to central Southern California. Spirelike, evergreen, always straight, to 75m in its habitat. Grey-green needles, bark black to brown and deeply fissured on older trees. Drought tolerant, rare in NZ.

Grecian fir Ht 15-30m
Mountains of Greece. Narrowly conical, evergreen, smooth grey bark, densely arranged horizontal branches. Brown, upright, very resinous 12-20cm cones break-up when ripe. Adapted to very dry conditions.
