Horse chestnut Ht 20-30m
Albania and Nth Greece. Broadly conical, deciduous. Large palmate compound leaves produce a dense shade. Large creamy white flowers, then prickly oval fruits, enclosing polished conkers prized by schoolboys in the UK. Best in fertile soils.

A slow growing cone-shaped evergreen conifer from near the tree line in Yunnan, S.W. China and adjacent states, 3000-4000m. Dark green glossy needles, underside vivid white.
Upright dark purple-blue cones. Needs cool summers and high rainfall. No wildling risk.
