NW part of South Island, NZ. Broadly columnar, evergreen. An erect multi-stemmed round headed tree with many more pairs of leaflets in the pinnate leaf. The flowers are lemon yellow - a spectacular sight in spring. Enjoys lime.

Evergreen, with upright vase shaped slightly arching branches. Larger leaves and much larger flowers. Hardy, slower than most kowhai. Suitable for a small garden. Known by the name 'Gnome'.

Black locust Ht 20-25m
E. & Midwest USA. Broadly columnar deciduous. Variable stem form. Planted in NZ for slip stabilisation. Fixes nitrogen. Recommend close planting for ground durable posts & firewood. Rootstock grade CUT OFFS @ 65cm for straight new rod growth in Spring. Any other grades will be be uncut

A columnar form from seedlings at least 2 years old. Vigorous with form like a Lombardy poplar. Deeply rooted and wind firm. Brown leaves held through winter maintaining the screening and sheltering effect. Fast growth and good acorn production.
