Coast Grey Box Ht 30 - 40m

Symphyomurtus more prone to insect attack. Naturally durable heavy timber, originates in mixed coastal forest of Southern NSW and S.E. Victoria on fertlie free draining soils.Tolerates seasonal flooding and light frost to -6C. Rainfall 600-2500mm, Altitude 0-500m, will coppice, and resprout epicormic growth after fire, forms a lignotuber. Not suited to dry, or exposed coastal sites. Potential for organic vineyard posts, fencing, decking and heavy construction.

Populus 'Chiba' NZ 5037

Chiba fastigiate poplar Ht 30m

Commercial release of a new hybrid 'Chiba' P. maximowiczii x fastigiate P. nigra (backcross). Developed by Allan Wilkinson, it has a narrow fastigiate form to replace the rust infected Lombardy poplar. 'Chiba' refers to Dr. Shigeru Chiba of the Japanese Oji Pulp & Paper Company which supplied the P. maximowiczii parent that is unpalatable to rabbits and possums. Leaves develop yellow autumn colour in May and remain rust free. Cuttings 40cm, Rooted topped @ 1m.
