A dark green smaller leaf, with a compact tight habit, ideal for hedging, clips well. Easier to keep as a low formal hedge. Copes with coastal and exposed sites, but not wet sites.

Broadly spreading, evergreen. Common throughout NZ. Long lived. Tolerates salt laden winds. A good screening plant with its glossy green leaves. Palatable to stock and possums. Cold hardy form from the Lewis Pass.

Narrow columnar juvenile form with slender interlacing branchlets, changing to an adult form with spreading crown. Flowers often single, white mildly fragrant, through summer and early autumn. Lowland forests south from Taranaki & Hawkes Bay.

Narrowly conical when young, evergreen. Masses of very small white flowers Dec/Jan, worked by bees. Tolerates exposed, cold and low fertility sites. Useful nurse tree for native revegetation projects.
