Himalayan Mountains to W. Szechuan. Broadly conical, evergreen. Dark green foliage. Drought tolerant and canker resistant. Good quality timber.

NZ white pine. Narrowly conical for many years, evergreen. Will tolerate very wet sites and grow in drier sites with good grass control. Tolerates shade but does best with blue sky above. Shade the trunk with shrubs to prevent sun scorch. Long lived. 2 years old.

Miniature flax-like foliage and slender fruiting stalks with bright blue berries. Full sun or light shade. Tolerates low fertility clay soils.

Broadly spreading, evergreen. Tough shelter shrub for exposed and coastal conditions but is too frost tender for inland South Island areas. Wood is hard and black, streaked with white.
