Broadly spreading crown with large bunches of white flowers in autumn. Attractive to many insects including monarch butterfly. Coastal and lowland forest in mild areas.

NW Argentina to Bolivia in humid forests. Very similar in appearance to the Black walnut of the USA, and may have been moved by migrating indigenous people as a food and trade item along the mountains over a very long period. Suited to the mild parts of NZ.

E USA. Broadly spreading, deciduous. Best in sheltered fertile site. Rough green fruit husk and rough thick shelled nut. Grown primarily for timber; very durable, rich dark brown, used for cabinets, gunstocks and boat building.

A tall straight trunked deciduous tree with timber potential. Vigorous growth continued into the late autumn, indicating it needs a mild climate. A well drained soil is necessary. Edible nuts similar to J. regia.
