As we predominantly grow our trees in the open ground, please note that the 2020 lifting & grading season has now ended.

Website currently only showing available container grown species that can be ordered online now.

Next season’s bare rooted stock will not be able to be ordered online until our stocktake is completed by end of March 2021.

However, we are taking forward orders now by email for the 2021 season.

Orders will be confirmed after stocktake completed by end of March 2021 and website fully updated.

Camellia reticulata (POT grown)

Reticulata seedlings Ht 3-4m

A large compact shrub. Cold hardy evergreen. Handsome dark green leaves with large single rose-pink flowers. Seedlings show very little variation. Hilliers refers to it as one of the most beautiful flowering shrubs.

Dense tufts of arching leaves form a mophead,seed stalks up to1.5m lie on the ground, hence the common name. Plants grown from a selected redder foliaged population. Full sun or part shade.

Makaka or Marlborough weeping broom Ht 3-8m

Eastern Marlborough high on Seaward Kaikoura Range. Tall shrub with upright branches, topped by a canopy of weeping grey leafless branchlets. In December large hanging clusters of 10mm mauve flowers. Fixes nitrogen.

Carpinus betulus

European hornbeam Ht 15-20m

Broadly spreading, deciduous. A tough hedgerow and woodland tree. Popular for trimmed formal hedges. The timber is very hard and used for turnery. Yellow autumn colour. We also recommend Fagus sylvatica as a good alternative for a clipped hedge.
