Broadly columnar, deciduous. A natural hybrid between Tilia cordata and T.platyphyllos, common throughout NZ. The base of the trunk often with burrs and a mass of basal shoots. Leaves intermediate in size between the parents, thinly hairy with tufts of dense hairs in the underside leaf veins axils. Heavy aphid populations deposit honeydew on everything beneath. Small yellow-white flowers honey-scented hang from a bract. Oval seeds are hairy, faintly ribbed and dry brown.

Western N. America. Conical, evergreen. Make a graceful specimen tree. Will tolerate shade, prefers regular rainfall. Component of Douglas fir forest. Suited to uneven aged selection forestry. Will clip to an attractive hedge.

Broadly columnar, deciduous. Produced in Holland by the open pollination of Ulmus glabra 'Exoniensis' (Exeter Elm) x Ulmus wallichiana (Himalayan elm). Same tree was parent of 'Lobel' & 'Plantyn'. Narrow crown from 'Exonensis' ancestry. DED resistant.

Broadly columnar, deciduous. U. glabra (Wych elm) x U. carpinifolia of French origin. Selected in Holland for resistance to Dutch Elm Disease (DED). Straight trunk, upright branching, dense crown, for roadside planting. Valuable decorative timber. Not for wet soils.
